![]() Our club, RC Malda Central, RID 3240, India, is presently running two Vocational Training Centers. In both these Centers qualified instructors train women from the poorer section of society in Tailoring courses. The first Center, Shotodol, was our Centennial Project. The second has been started in July this year. Both Centers are running well enough with the first Center catering to 61 trainees and the second, with a thumping figure of 149 trainees. This enthusiasm has given rise to hope of starting Women's Self-Help Groups with these trainees as the nucleii, after their graduation. But that is only one side of the story. We have a dream - a dream of a green world, free from the choking menace of plastic bags. We are aware of the hazards of non-degradable plastic and polyethene products. It is our dream to replace the plastic bags used by local traders with eco-friendly linen and gunny bags manufactured by our own trainees in our Centers. With the help of the Chambers of Commerce I think we'll succeed. Rotary has to show the way and it will. |
