The Online University for Rotarians web site is jointly sponsored by Rotary International Districts 5110 and 7570 and is intended as a supplemental learning resource for all Rotarians, Rotary Districts and Rotary Clubs. The Learning Modules posted there are prepared by nowledgeable and experienced Rotarian volunteers. It is our hope that this offering of training and enrichment on the Internet will be of value to Rotarians everywhere.

The Online University for Rotarians evolved from a strong conviction on the part of Past R.I. President, Frank J. Devlyn (2000-2001) that Rotary needs to use available Technology to enhance communication and share information to prepare Rotary's leaders for the future.

Dear John, thank you for letting me know about the project "On line University". To me, staff SHOULD serve their guests, ie, US, the Rotarians!

This was the dedicated work of Harriett Schloer, a Rotarian from Oregon and one of Rotary's foremost webmasters and technology innovators. Sadly, it was somewhat damped by heavy handed bureaucracy forcing "Rotary University" or similar wording to be abandoned. It is often individual action that results in great strides by Rotary. One individual action, which felt the heavy hand of the same type of "organized" opposition was by the early Rotary Club of Chicago toward Paul Harris and his outlandish ideas about Rotary 'Round the World. In the case of Harriett's wonderful program, RI objected to the use of the world "rotary" in her project. Her's was but one of many such efforts thwarted by the very "government" that Harris so bravely forwarded. It is true that Rotary International offers something similar on their website. Perhaps only that done by staff or with staff approval can be acceptable?
