Rotary News
The Torch UntouchedBeing an active student leader, I have always been challenged by my superiors to keep the flame of Rotaract in our school flaming. A year after I have founded this chapter of Rotaract, we had our moments in the sun, we have been rained upon, we had been down in the dumps, we managed to clean and spruce ourselves up, but most importantly, we managed to be nominated for outstanding organization among the veterans of our school. People applauded us for overcoming many challenges, I applaud my members and officers who were always there. People criticized us for being ambitious, I criticized our lack of effort. Many times, when the pressure is crushing my time and my strength, I thought of resigning from my post as Charter President and leave Rotaract. I and my board of directors have lashed at each other specially during crucial times but our love for our friendship, which is the very foundation of our chapter, pushes us through. I admit that I have plenty of flaws as a leader, but I am not scared of learning and making myself better. Indeed, the year was tough for us but we continued to chew through the rubber-like obstacles of running an organization. This is why many people challenge us to leave a legacy behind. We built a good reputation for our club within the school, the question is, who would want to continue that reputation? They told us that the best leaders do not produce followers but produce even better leaders. The problem is that there seem to be a drought in the basin of leaders. Few people are willing to grab the chance, not chance, but priviledge, or serving our coomunity. Perhaps it is because people see that despite the success the currrent leaders are tired and exhausted people who always complain about how hard their job is. For my second term as president, I intend to show my members how wonderful it is to lead such an amazing organization. I will find a succesor who will bring our club to places I could not take them. Let us pass on the torch to people who want it not to people who were forced to keep it burning... |
