I always wondered why RI allowed the creation of e-clubs but with the same concept of traditional physical clubs. An e-club must be: 1- International in it's membership. 2- Members must be technologicaly advanced in order to communicate perfectly. 3- International in its scope of service and friendship. 4- it can provide local projcts for its community and members in each country. 5- It should use all the abilities provided by current and future tech.

Marcos does make a good point here about the "magic of Rotary" is consistency. Much like a McDonald's hamburger or a cup Starbuck's Coffee, regardless of where in the world you are it all taste the same. But on the other hand, McDonald's does add things to their menu and service. In fact McDonalds is going to be rolling out a corporate wide WiFi Hot Spot program so dinners can access broadband Internet. Perhaps someday there will be webcast meetings of Rotary in McDonalds restaurants! Ahmed, keep inquiring, asking and learning.

I think that the main reason is that the e-clubs keep being Rotary Clubs. What I mean? For example: what's the main difference between Rotary Clubs and Lions Clubs: they do almost the same, they have the same objectives written in a different way, but they are Lions and we are Rotarians because we follow different rules. We have our constitution and manual of procedure that says how is a Rotary Club, and even allows the use of the name of Rotary and it's weel -both registered marks- only to those organizations that abide those rules. If Rotary allows a new kind of club totally different to "normal" clubs, their are setting a precedent so other clubs can argue that they need other rules to keep going. That will attack one of the best things that -in my opinion- Rotary has: being so alike all over the world, with the marvelous touch of differences because of the local culture. That's wonderful!

Rotary E-Club of 3310 can also admit members from other countries who travel to Singapore once a month to coincide with our physical meetings. It is not impossible. Cheers. :-)

Dear fellows, I did c the e-clubs list and read ur comments. But the need 2 attend a meeting physicaly is the main obstacle against a real International e-club.

Dear Ahmed Read Rotary World, April 2005 issue, Page 4. If you have not seen it, you can download this from www.rotary.org Check out our web portal, www.rotaryeclub3310.org. We definitely do believe in ethnic diversity. Thus, we are very international in nature. However, to join E-Club 3310 (an "Extraordinary" Club), you need to be able to attend our physical meeting which is the second Thursday of every month. We are indeed a "hybrid". PP Dr Ho Loon Shin, Rotary Club of Kulai, is E-Club 3310's Honorary Moderator. BS
