Rotary Meeting
Meeting October 6, 2008 - AG Kawamura by RCS Staff Dennis Dalton Featured Rotarian Reception Music provided by Elfrena Foord A.G. was appointed as secretary of the California Department of Food and Agriculture in November 2003. Secretary Kawamura is a produce grower and ships from Orange County, where his family grows strawberries, green beans, and other specialty crops. He began his agricultural career as a beekeeper, and was a roadside stand operator before entering into his family business as a produce salesman for Western Marketing Company of California. In 1996, Western Marketing Company became Orange County Produce, LLC, which he founded with his brother, Matthew. A.G. has served or been of member of the California State Board of Food and Agriculture, past chairman of the Agriculture Technical Advisory Committee, and several agriculture commissions and associations. Secretary Kawamura has a passion for education and combating hunger. As president of Orange County Harvest, he arranged for volunteers to glean over a million pounds of produce from area food banks. He is also committed to the Common Grounds project in San Juan Capistrano and the Incredible Edible Park in Irvine. He has received numerous awards and recognition including the Pacific Pioneer Award, Humanitarians Against Hunger Award, Sustainable Northwest, and many more.
