I have sent the following proposal , last June to the Rotary Legislation council

If a club set up in his meeting room a computer and a webcam (with MSN messenger software) any Rotarian with the same software can make a "virtual visit" and participate to the meeting ! He will then receive a certificat like any "real visitors"

The legislation council rejected this proposal....

If you are interested you can "visit" our Club in Melun, France and participate to our meeting : just go to Click to Open Web Page and ask for a webmeeting , monday, 6 to 7 PM GMT

Well i always had a dream of an international club that has its members from all over the planet. without the need to abide by geographical, political or financial boundaries...this is the real spirit of service, but when RI allowed e-clubs they did it the old way but in the shape of a new way...this is not the e-club i dream off.

This is probably the premier networking group on planet Earth. We should know each other to know wich are our strenghs and what can be the scope and reach of the projects that we activate. An e-club can start under the sponsorship of a brick-and-mortar Club. When the time comes and proper controls are in place, we can explore independency. Just an idea.

Yeah, that's one of the advantages of technology.

I agree too that it is a fantastic idea. Particularly if you live in an isolated area and there aren't any other clubs nearby (which is a big problem in rural Australia), this would be perfect... a nice alternative to a makeup at an eclub, or a great way anytime to get ideas from other clubs by actually witnessing what they do!

Hold on to your horses (English figure of speech), but yes you are right! This is an excellent idea...and one that is being researched, and I am working on. Stay tuned for more details. We have a pilot project in the works as we speak that will provide a web-based meeting that will not even require Messenger it will be a live stream webcast of one of the oldest and largest Rotary Clubs in the world.
