The month of September is New Generations Month as well as World Literacy Month. Taking cognizance of this fact, the Rotary Club of Polomolok launched its Adopt-A-School Program by appointing its first adopted school, a daycare center in Kaunlaran Subdivision in Polomolok on September 16, 2006. The said daycare center (Kaunlaran Daycare Center) is also being assisted by the Municipal Social Welfare and Development. Club F'lomlok 101 donated rattan chairs to the daycare center, mindful that a comfortable classroom affects the learning process of children. In line with its literacy program for the month, the club also donated storybooks for use in the classroom to help develop the toddlers' reading skills as well as their love of reading. Rotarian Jocelyn Villones delighted the children in a storytelling session. After the Rotary Reader Program came the Sagip-Ngipin Program, a dental health drive, the objective of which is to increase awareness of the children and the parents on proper dental care and hygiene. Rotarian Maribel Acuesta,Director of Membership Committee and a pediatric dentist by profession, gave free dental check-ups. The club gave away free toothbrushes and toothpaste sachets. The club officers, headed by President Espie Maliwat, conducted an ocular inspection of the classroom and the school compound to identify problems that the club might be able to address. The Kaunlaran Purok Chairwoman was present to introduce the Rotarians to the parents. The Municipal Daycare Center coordinator was also present. The donation of chairs was taken care of Charter President Omar Gallinero, and the book donation, by President Espie Maliwat and President-Elect Alan Ines. |
