Long distance makeup meeting!

Long Distance for a Makeup Editor: James A Dunny One of our newer members recently traveled a long way from Rancho Bernardo for a vacation. Sonali Soni may have a record for our club in the longest distance traveled for a makeup meeting.

On August 28, Rotarian Sonali Soni was in India for a family visit. While she was there, she investigated the location of meetings of Rotary Clubs. Clubs in India meet in the evening, so she arrived at the designated location at the stated meeting time. She was puzzled, however, to find no one there. She relates how she exchanged nervous glances with a server who was setting up in the meeting room. About 25 minutes later, members began to arrive. They are a lot more lax about starting on time than we are!

Having gotten past the initial wonder about whether she was in the right place, she was able to attend and presented our club's banner. She also received a banner in return from the Delhi Chanakyapuri Rotary Club, which she has present to our club.

Like everyone who attends a Rotary meeting anywhere soon learns, you have Rotary friends everywhere in the world!

Yes, indeed Rotary International was one of the very first forms of Social Networking! As members and proud wearers of the Rotary pin, we have over 1,200,000 friends in our buddy list! That truly is one of the most magical aspects of what Paul Harris formed over 100 years ago!
