RYLA in Nepal Concludes

RYLA concludes One of the objectives of Rotary is to support the youth to develop their leadership skills. To live up the belief that youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), youth-oriented programmes of Rotary International to commemorate Centennial Year was conducted from 7th till 12th May 2005 as a district event of RI Dist. 3290 hosted by 6 Rotary Clubs in Kathmandu valley. The 3rd RYLA in history of Rotary Clubs in Nepal, concluded successfully on 12th May 2005 with emphasis on leadership, good citizenship and personal growth of the participating youth with the theme of "Youth For World Peace". Previous RYLA in Nepal were held in 2001 and 2004. Rtn. Gopal Rajbhandhari, Chief Counsellor of Rotary Nepal, had given away awards to Best Boy Participant, Best Girl Participants, Most Friendly Participant and all the 171 participants who had spent 6 days in the training camp. He also handed over Certificate of Appreciation to Rotarians of RC Bagmati, RC Nagarjun, RC Rajdhani, RC Rudramati, RC Tripureshor and RC Yala who had organized this 6-day RYLA. Similarly, Rtn. Ram Prasad Joshi, Chairperson for RYLA 2005, gave away awards to the Best Group "Choyoo". The six-day residential intensive training programme was inaugurated jointly by Miss Nepal title holders Payal Shakya, Priti Sitaula, Malvika Subba, Sweta Singh and Guest of Honor, District Governor Rtn. Prabir Chakravarti on 7th May 2005 at Budhanilkantha School. The young leaders were trained in leadership development, Rotary awareness, time management, conflict resolution, tobacco control, environmental awareness, effective public speaking, effective communication, family and ethical values, art of living and positive thinking, among others. The participants of the RYLA have said that the event was an unique opportunity to develop themselves as a better human being with awareness of greater challenges that lay ahead for them. We sure hope they will definitely become the youth for world peace and spread goodwill to achieve the spirit of the theme in RYLA this year. |
