Sitting here, facing the computer monitor, I asked myself why I do the things I do for Rotary. I am a sixteen year old boy full of energy and enthusiasm. What am I doing in a Rotary meeting and actually enjoying myself. My only relation to Rotary is myself. I'm not a rotakid so there's no one obligating me to attend the weekly gathering of Rotarians in my community, and yet I do. The Interact Club that I'm heading is community based. It is twice as hard to maintain than a school-based club. We do have different schedules so having a meeting with impeccable attendance is rare. And yet I don't lose hope that one day we will be complete again. One hour before RYLA, while waiting for the Rotarian who will bring us to the location of the event, I mention to my member that I wanted to be the RI President one day. He told me to dream on. And you know what? I will, I will dream on that one day I will be the leader of this organization that serves the world. I will accompany that dream with selfless action leading to it's completion. I've always wanted to be a government official, not because it's a great job' but because I know that I could do a great job. But it is in my opinion that Politics is stained. I could not maintain my integrity in a corrupt system. But I still intend to lead, there's no better organization to lead but the Rotary club. We do not get any material return in what we do. The only thing we get is the moral uplifting of the knowledge that we have made a diffrence for the better. October 20 would be the National Youth Forum here in the Philippines. They said that the guest speaker is this year's RI President. I intend to introduce myself with hopes that he could help me in the realization of my humble dreams. It is undeniable that the youth is essential and vital in the progress of our world. But the problem the youth face today is that we have low dreams. We aspire for average, not excellence. If this change, the future will shine brighter than the cluster of stars in any galaxy...

Don't stop dreaming, Roland. In addition to dreaming, we've to figure out how could we make our dream come true, ie, ACTION. Only dreaming isn't enough. I joined the Rotaract when I was 22. Then I became the President 3 years later. I became a Rotarian this July. I believe I'll be the President again in 3 years:P My dream is the double honour of being the president of both Rotaract Club and its mother club.
