This is actually less a posting about Rotary matters, and more a posting about fellowship and to show off some incredible scenes from South Africa.

This past weekend, my club - the Rotary Club of Westville, was taken on tour by our resident Battlefields expert, Ken Gillings. Now, this is the last installation in a set of tours that he has arranged all over the KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa.

We drove through the countryside, on dirt roads, through small towns, and every now and then we'd stop at a seemingly random location only to be walked over to the graves of zulu kings, or the sites of epic and incredibly significant battles in the history of South Africa. At each point, he'd start with a talk - handled with poise and humour - then answer a diverse array of questions with seeming ease.

As a newcomer to South Africa I developed a new appreciation for the depth of history, and for new perspectives that he brought to turning-point events. Many of which reminded me of Canada and our English/French divide. More globally, they also reminded me of the generational gap in Rotary - and more importantly, the way in which it can be bridged through understanding.

In any case, I have appended a slideshow of some of the photos I took along the trip. I hope you find it interesting.
