•   Open Items & Discussion

Having Vidder get more involved with Virtual Meetings so all members of the group can have VIdder client designated to Green Protocol WG so that more people could video conference during the meetings.

Discussed the two classification system proposal consisting of Butterfly classification – Observer Worker Bee – Active participant

Perhaps this system covers an academic classification or consider that classification if eventually there is a financial cost to membership.

Facebook Green Protocol Group is growing. It now has presently over 200 members, and the Linkedin group has around 40 members. Patrick G. discussed the recent developments with recent white paper draft on UDP/IP adaptation of the IEEE 802.15.4- based ZigBee Application Protocol that enables IP hosts to communicate using the application profiles and data models described by that protocol, over a wide range of links. The draft will be posted on the GPWG Knowledge Portal. Discussion about 6LoPAN and ZigBee.

Sebastien Z. discussed advancing with contacts regarding the project of the building in Geneva to be built incorporating IPv6 technologies into the architecture of the building.

Kevin P. of GSA discussed the Smart Buildings Initiative to develop a business plan and road map to change the approach to way we wire buildings, and what devices and to a certain degree protocols that get hung off of that infrastructure. In the past all of the vertical and horizontal wiring was provided by the tenant. The scope of the project is to look at the data network infrastructure. The lead consultant for the project is Lawrence Berkeley National Labs. The sub consultant by the name of Building Intelligence Group is the author of the road map. Interested in the integration of multiple building related systems, and the building management system. So you have on one hand CCTV, and all of the HVAC, and the lighting systems, etc. and particularly the security side for batch data, and video data. Integrates information pertaining to occupancy and the integration of these systems, and the hardware that gets specified, and looking to move all of these devices to an IP protocol, cameras, current readers, having discussions with a collation of folks in the process. The collation should give a good interface with the Green Protocol WG. The next step for the Smart Building Initiative will integrate with the GPWG Demo Building Committee. Geof mentioned that State of California DTS was interested in getting involved in the future with the Demo Building efforts as well.

Suggestion by Sebastian to keep track of IPv4 exhaustion. Discussion ensued about the variations of theories of IPv4 address supply. Thomas described the Y2k analogy and how that can potentially be drawn on in some way.

It was decided to GPWG to be an agnostic and unbiased aggregator of the various IPv4 address count down theories, sites and activities. Including the clock at http://penrose.uk6x.com/ and others.

Geoff M. discussed the ease of an orderly transition, and the challenges of a “run on the bank” scenario of IPv4 exhaustion.
