The Gita describes three paths for realisation - Karma, Sankhya and Bhakti. Karma and Sankhya are in the same category. Karmayog is said to be easier than Sankhya. It can be practiced while doing our normal house work, while keeping our relations in the world. Yog means relations with God. By practice of Karmayog alone we can attain God.

In all relations your duty is to protect the right of the other. For a mother her duty is to attempt to give her child a good education and help him to progress in life and attain salvation. Similarly for the child - he should obey his mother and take care her in her old age and do whatever he can to help her in her salvation. This is the basic goal of all relations. It is to assist others in reaching their salvation - in giving others pleasure - in serving them. Karmayog teaches you to renounce your self interest. The basic principle of Karmayog is to serve all without wanting anything in return for yourself. Your object is only to give.

The Gita says that our right is only in doing actions - not in the fruit (Gita 2:47). Do your duty. It is not for you to see whether others are doing theirs. You do yours. You are independent in the same. The husband should protect and take care of his wife - it is not for him to want his wife to obey everything he says. It is the right of the wife to be protected and provided for. Protect the right of others. Help everyone.

Prosperity and progress happens by helping others. Everyone should help each other. Society will progress. Other have a right on you. Fulfil that earnestly. Do not exercise your right on others - serve others and you will attain God. Karmayog is selfless service for the benefit of others. Everyone serves everyone (Gita 3:11). You are not doing a favour to anyone by serving him - it is your duty. Wanting pleasure from others is the cause of downfall. Learn to give - not take. Follow this path and you will attain God - realise Him. Your object is only to give pleasure.

What is love? Giving pleasure to your lover is love. Do everything for the happiness and pleasure of the other. In taking you are dependent and in giving you are independent. If you look for pleasure in the world - you will never get it. Karmayog has been very well described in the Gita. God says that it practically disappeared (Gita 4:11) but it is a very good spiritual discipline. It is an independent means to attain God and is easier that Sankhyayog. It helps you to renounce your attraction and aversion towards the world and worldly objects.

I shall tell you my personal experience - it is much easier to give something good away to someone that to throw it away. This is what Karmayog teaches you. Renunciation by selfless service to others. Selfishness is removed by Karmayog.
