Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are usually community-based or university-based and are sponsored by a local Rotary club making them true "partners in service" and key members of the Rotary family.

The proper spelling is R O T A R A C T....sometimes people (myself included) will accidently spell it Rotoract.

Now that you know the correct spelling be sure to use it freely! And if you don't have a Rotaract Club in your community, maybe it is time to start thinking about forming one!

Well, the story is the same. We can't expect the Rotarians to correctly spell Rotaract but acknowledgement of their partners in service in deed is our need. Like any children of a family, they are looking for their seniors to pat them on the back and acknowledge the efforts put forward by Rotaractors. At least this is what I am trying to voice in Nepal Rotary Clubs and I remember correcting them even in the Centennial Everest Expedition 2005 organized by Rotary Clubs in Nepal to hoist Rotary Flag at the top of the world. They forgot to mention Rotaract (Rtr. abbreviation) to the names of the climbers who are the members Rotaract Club of New Road City! .. Good news is, things have started to change and Rotaract are acknowledged and given priority of attention these days and are invited in the planning meetings of projects wherever necessary. Sure things will get better than spelling Rotaract right! Check www.rotaryeverestexp2005.com.np for details of this project

It happens to the best of us Geof ;) At the last Rotaract Preconvention, the RI staff prepared overheads for their presentations with the spelling "Rotoract". We figured then that if the RI staff who look after the program couldn't spell it correctly, then expecting Rotarians and other non-Rotaractors to do so was a big ask! *grin*

Well if my math is correct we should then have about 5 million members to the Digarian Community of people that are part of the Rotary Family, sharing resources with one another...provided they speak English, at least until on-line language translation is perfected, when that happens everybody can be connected.

Also, forming a Rotaract is a wonderful community project... Did you know that Rotaract is the 3rd biggest program or RI? It's after PolioPlus and Interact Club (about 2.000.000.000 inmunized, 1.500.000 Interactors up to date, 1.200.000 Rotaractors... al numbers calculated since the start of the programs). Only as a comparison, the grants for youth exchange have been granted to no more than 150.000 students.
