digital video for education
To all Digital Rotarians and Those Who Think Like Them: I am a member of the Rotary Club of Santa Clara, California, in the heart of Silicon Valley. I mention the technology connection because I have recently started a nonprofit centered on educational technology (digital video, specifically), and would welcome the feedback of the members of Digaria. The nonprofit is called Next Vista for Learning, and you can find it at .www.nextvista.org. I would specify that I am only now starting the process of getting teachers, students, and others to begin shooting and editing the videos that will make up the online library of video resources - the principal project of the nonprofit. My goal is to create a resource that builds students' confidence in their learning, gives them a new set of views on the larger world, and allows them to see the joy and respect that comes from serving others. The website now has what I hope is a succinct but effective description of the collections that will be added to the library. If those of you who have time would give it a look and let me know what you think, I would appreciate your critique. It would be especially helpful if you would please add your thoughts to this forum using the comment feature, as I suspect others might build off anything posted. In addition to the effort to build goodwill and understanding, I believe the project has the potential to give students a powerful tool for addressing their academic weaknesses while giving teachers the ability whenever they choose to see their colleagues from around the world present topics and gather ideas. I ask that you share thoughts both supportive and critical; I want this project to be the best it can be and the more feedback I get the greater the chance of success. As the Japanese say, "onegai shimasu" ("I ask a favor"). Rushton |
