California, July 9, 2007 – The MetroNet6 network project has selected Coversant's SoapBox platform as the basis for project collaboration. The SoapBox suite of software will be used to incorporate the benefits of the open standard extensible messaging and presence protocol (XMPP) into the effort. The MetroNet6 team will work with first responders to bring application layers to the network using the open-standard protocol of XMPP. Coversant will provide the messaging software infrastructure to meet the XMPP specification standard. The company will also provide XMPP subject matter expertise in regards to the future of collaboration and messaging not only as it relates to person to person communication, but also in both application and machine interaction. By focusing on technology standards such as IPv6 and XMPP, the MetroNet6 network project can quickly provide temporary, self-configuring, ad hoc networks that will allow emergency services and first responders a way to communicate using common off-the-shelf technologies. George Usi, the project manager of the MetroNet6 network, and the CEO of Sacramento Technology Group noted, "The messaging platform is an integral component for interoperable and open standards support required by the MetroNet6 project. We needed something that is not only extremely scalable, but also something that is flexible and gives a number of deployment options. The Coversant platform is ideally suited for this open standards based project. It is great to have the support of local a local Sacramento company with XMPP domain expertise that can provide the project with valuable resources as the project evolves." "We are excited by the opportunity to work with the MetroNet6 project team as they continue to lead the with a way to bring true interoperability to the world of emergency services communications," commented Mark Carrington, CEO, Coversant, he added "the SoapBox platform deploys easily, and can be built upon in the future as technologies evolve."
