I think most, if not all, Rotarians would agree that community service is a very rewarding part of being a Rotarian. Being able to do something, no matter how small, to improve the lives of others is reward in itself. But when somebody outside of Rotary notices what we do it reaffims why many of us became Rotarians. The recent presentation by our town Mayor to our Club at such a public and joyful ocassion as our annual town carnival, instills me with pride, particularly as I am fortunate enough to be our Club President this year.

We are bombarded with information about international projects and it is important that we as Rotarians become involved in them. However, we must not lose sight of our local communities, after all, local communities are where Rotary Clubs come from. As is often the case it all comes down to balance; get involved in international projects but don't forget what you can do for your local community.

I would agree that we should also consider to take an active role in our community were we are and for those who have so much resources financially be able to extend their support to international projects tru WCS or matching grants.

Great. That looks like a wonderful opportunity to spread the word of Service Above Self!
