We are currently reviewing our club in terms of meeting format and projects underway. We want to be relevant to our own community and also give something to communities overseas who are not as lucky as we in the “lucky country” are. We are doing some different things for Centenary. We have offered a free Trophy to any club (sporting or otherwise) for any event under the terms of their club that includes the words Rotary and 100. We have about 20 clubs (big for our island) ranging from the “Best Personal Best in a 100 Meter Event” from the Swimming Club to the “Rotary 100 Peoples Choice” at the Toastmasters “Chin Wag Challenge”. Great fun. We present the trophy with a short presentation on Rotary and pass out tickets in our FREE Raffle. We obtained some donated prizes and are passing out free tickets as a “thank you” to our supporters in our community. We are getting great publicity and really bonding with the “Doers” in our community. This is the only time you will ever get a raffle ticket from a Rotarian for free! So hurry!

Planning is in train for a “Healthy Breakfast” campaign at one of our primary schools, a trade oriented course at the high school is under consideration as is our usual trophies and bursaries for the schools. Overseas projects are also under consideration. I have corresponded with Florence in Hong Kong about “We Smile We Care” as a nice means of fundraising.

So what sort of unique projects are your club undertaking or planning? We don’t want to compete (we are a bit far away for that!). But ideas are always welcome. Please add to the bottom of this Scribe with your comments so we can all share some good ideas! One Rotarian is a Rotarian. A club full is a good things happening. A world full is great ideas helping millions. Please share yours.

The 4 Rotaract Clubs in Macau, RID 3450 will organise a Youth Generation Conference in June. This has been the 5th/6th we held together in Macau, enabling highschool students to communicate directly with Government officials from different areas. In the past, we had invited those of Youth & Education, Culture and Anti-corruption.

I would say our most unique one this year is planning to help the local town with a Chicken Festival. I am not sure what that will all entail, but I am assuming we'll be cooking a lot of chicken for the local community. One of the projects we are looking to explore using the funds generated from the Chicken Festival is the founding of a Community Teen Center. We'll see how it goes! Stay tuned.
