![]() Since January 2006, the Rotary Club of Polomolok 101 members had been saving used-but-still-usable items such as clothes, toys, books, food and other items which they stuffed in shoeboxes. Come December, these were ready to be given away to selected children coming from the hinterlands of Landan, Polomolok. The items were sorted according to age group and gender of recipients. On December 18, the Rotarians hied off to Landan to meet the little children led by their teacher and a social worker who acted as co-coordinator of this project. A program was held prior to the gift-giving. After the shoeboxes were distributed along with two kilos of rice for each child, the children, 60 in all, enjoyed a meal prepared especially for them. They trekked back home happily, lugging their goodies and chattering, unmindful of the long and uphill climb ahead. |
