The grant covers tuition and fees of all trainees for one year and additional meal and transportation allowance for some. Says Rotary President Deo Dumaraos: "I would say that it's fulfilling to help out others, but everybody knows that this help will become futile if the students will not do their part." CITE selected the trainees who are residents of Cebu City and Mandaue City and whose annual family income is less than 60,000. Interviews were also conducted with the trainees before they were given the slot. One of the scholars, Cherry Ann Alpuerto, overtly expressed her gratitude to the grantors saying, " We are happy. We never expected (this) blessing until we witnessed the signing of the MOA today." According to Scholarships Officer June Capuyan, beneficiaries of the scholarship will have to pay up 25% of the grant within three years once they can find employment. This scheme will help other future scholars who might need the same assistance they are receiving now. " We are hoping that they (the scholars) will continue what we've started. They, too, in the future must share to those who are in need." The Rotarary Club of Mandaue North came to know about CITE through Dann Diez, former alumni officer of the school and now vice president of the Rotary Club and the District 3860 Rotaract Chair for Visayas. "CITE has shown good performance as far as competence and community outreach is concerned, " said Dumaraos. The Rotaract Club of Mandaue-North pooled in grants from the Rotary International to realize this project. The first batch of Rotary Club of Mandaue North scholars is composed of Jerson Bonote, Michael Vincent Son, Peter Legaspi Jr., Julius Sumayang, Letty Flores, Sheila Marie Limotan, Floramie Galon, Christy Cabug-os, Jes Sheryl Ostia, Venze Limotan, Jessie Miñoa, Reno Tomaquin, Shari Sotto, Solis Ritchell Lapyahan, Arnel Dejelo, Robella Montellano, Charisa Busalla, Cherry Ann Alpuerto, Frea Ruamar, Jose Veneer Codilla, Isabela Lubiano, Ruderick Anque, Anacito Incierto, Mario Laguna, Cherry Ann Villacampo, Deneza Solon, Rhoda Gomez, Jason Catigtig, Reynaldo Maglasang, Joseph Lumahan, Avie Marie Cabasa, Junmar Menancillo, Ilyn Aburdo, Jeffrey Roche, Irene Ybañez, Daniel Opigal, and Arthur Arceo. In attendance during the signing were Ted Gonzales, Chester Lim, Dann Diez, and Ruben Laraya. The MOA signing strengthened the tie-up between CITE and the Rotarary Club of Mandue North. Trainees are now confident to be able to finish the Production Technology program and take the new challenges. As Dumaraos put it," Experience will give you another type of expertise." This experience will give the scholars a brighter future and an expertise they will soon develop. For interested clubs who would be willing to extend their support for this program, please dont hesitate to contact us and will give you full details and proposals. |
