Melissa was just blocks away from the World Trade Center when the second plane hit and told the crowd of her experience. Also in the photo is New York Fire Fighter Bill Hays, who also spoke about his memories of that day.

Along Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and others close to the events of 9/11, Melissa spoke at the 2006 9/11 Anniversary on the steps of the California Capitol. Melissa, who is a 9/11 survivor spoke about her experience on the day of 9/11, 2001. At the time Melissa was working as an intern for Merrill Lynch. Melissa has recently completed a year of study at Oxford University in England as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar, sponsored by Rotary International District 5180, Rotary Club of Fair Oaks in the United States, and the Rotary club of Faringdon, and Rotary International District 1090 in England.
