Personal Interest
FILLING THE WRONG CUP...I haven't been in Rotary for a long time but I did observe a lot of the projects and it didn't take a long time for me to notice the folly of these "projects". Last time, our sponsoring club received a bunch of reading glasses from Australia. What they did was find a bunch of people who would be suitable beneficiaries for the said glasses. I'm not saying that this action was wrong, but im saying that is action is but a bandaid to slit throat. Rotarians propose projects and then they brainstorm to identify who would the project benefit. Isn't the system a little bit topsy turvy? Shouldn't we be finding people who are in need instead of trying to find people who would be likely candidates to benefit from the things we already have? Looking back on the projects I've done, I realized that I seemed to failed my initial goal in executing such tasks. My main goal was not to help or serve, my goal was to set an example to those who I help so that they will be touched enough by my genuine concern and return that concern to others. I was hopnig to build a domine effect of concern in my community. But Im not sure if accomplished that goal. I propose to the entire Rotary family that we search for people and determine what they need the most, mot feed them for a day and move on to another project afterwards, in order for us to really live up to what we portray. |
