WHO: The Department of Health and Human Services needs your help. As you can imagine, huge numbers of persons directly and indirectly displaced as a result of Hurricane Katrina are now seeking timely, reliable information. Some want to know how to apply for assistance, some seek their lost relatives, other are volunteers who want to know where and how to help most effectively. HHS needs volunteers to man a 50-person telephone bank for 4-hour shifts that began Friday, September 2, 2005 at the Hubert Humphrey building. This volunteer hotline (1-866-KATMEDI (1-866-528-6334)) will field calls from the general public. You will be provided training when you arrive and you will be working off a script. Your help and time is sincerely appreciated. WHAT skills are needed: Ability to interact on a phone Ability to collect information and fill out a web form Ability to speak with persons under stress Ability to provide reassurance WHERE: HHS, Office for Public Health Emergency Preparedness 200 Independence Ave., SW Room 800 Washington, DC 20201 Transportation: On-Street Parking or Metro: Federal Center Southwest (Orange Line) HOW to volunteer: Please send an email with your full-name, contact number, and availability to: katrinalogistics@hhs.gov.
