Re "Buffet’s generosity," editorial, June 28: Kudos for a very timely appreciation of a unique precedent setter in human history, Warren Buffet.

However, I have to point out one lapse on your part and one difference of opinion on the subject. First, while giving the magnitude of Buffet’s philanthropy, you have given the figure of $31 billion while on the title page of your business section that day ("Charity Trifecta") the figure quoted is $37.4 billion, which is the correct figure as 85 percent of his total assets of $44 billion. Why did you dwarf his philanthropy by a gigantic figure of $6.4 billions, whereas you have said, because of Buffet’s gift, the Gates Foundation will be distributing an additional $1.5 billion annually when UNESCO had a budget of $610 millions for 2004-05. Now you can well estimate the staggering underquoted figure!

Second, in your closing line you have said, "Few of us can remake the world but we can all do something to make it a bit better.” You should have added that Buffet’s huge donation can make it substantially better.
