Caperton's wife wants W.Va. to be model of bridging divide
The wife of former West Virginia Gov. Gaston Caperton is looking to the Mountain State to bridge the "digital divide" and set an example for the rest of the world. Idit Caperton, who married the former governor in 2003, spoke to members of the Vandalia Rotary Club at Christ Church United Methodist about her newest initiative, Globaloria West Virginia on Wednesday. "West Virginia is the model - the shining star - to show everybody we can do this," she said of the program. Globaloria West Virginia uses new media technology to generate creative learning. It is used in more than 20 schools in the state. The program teaches students and teachers alike how to produce media and use technology to further their knowledge, she said. The program allows students to be involved with project-based learning while providing training for possible future careers in the growing field of information technology. "My wife is doing things in West Virginia that are really going to change the state," said the former governor and now president of the College Board. Originally from Israel, Idit holds a doctor of philosophy degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She did her undergraduate work at Tel Aviv University and has two master's degrees from Harvard University. Rest of the story is here: Click to Open Web Page |
