Summiteers Felicitated

The Rotaractors from Rotaract Club of Ktm New Road City, Rtr. Moni Mulepati, Rtr. Pemba Sherpa and Rtr. Kami Sherpa succeeded in summitting Mt. Everest on 30th May 2005, 11AM. This day of May is just a day later than that of Sir Edmund and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa who summitted the world's highest peak for the first time in 1953 May 29th. The summiteers being the youngest team representing Rotary Movement, hoisted the RI Flag along with the national flag of Nepal. They also spoke to RI President Rtn. Glenn E. Estess Sr. to greet him from the top of the world on the success of RI and its centennial year. They further spreaded the message of world peace and International understanding.

They were escorted back to KTM on 2nd June 2005, Thursday. The schedule to felicitate them was delayed by almost 5 hours due to the accident of the helicoptor that went to pick them up from Everest Base Camp. However, with no casualties, the team led by Rtn. Dr. Harsha Ratna Shakya came back and a huge rally was organized in honor of the summiteers. The felicitation program started at 5:30 PM after the rally that ended at Basantapur, Kathmandu Durbar Square with all Rotarians, Rotaractors and well wishers from various clubs in Nepal felicitating and congratulating the summiteers. The program was honored by Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Buddhi Raj Bajracharya (also a Rotarian) who spoke on the occassion and congratulated all Rotarians, Rotaractors as well as the people of Nepal on the achievement of summiteers. The RI Centennial Flag and national flag of Nepal hoisted by them at the top of Everest was handed over to the Chairperson of the organizing committee Rtn. Gopal Sundar Lal Kakshapati who will be taking it to the RI Convention and handover to RI President Rtn. Glenn Estess Sr. Vice Chairman Rtn. Nugal Vaidya gave away the vote of thanks on behalf of the organizing committee, Rotary Centennial Everest Expedition 2005. Rotary personalities such as Rtn. Tirtha Man Shakya, Rtn. Ambika Shrestha, Rtn. Dr. Tika Man Vaidya along with senior Rotarians and District Officials of Nepal were also present during the event.

Other records made by this team of Rotaractors: 1. Rtr. Moni Mulepati is the 1st lady from Newar Community to summit Mt. Everest 2. Rtr. Moni Mulepati is the 5th Nepali Women to summit everest 3. Rtr. Moni Mulepati and Rtr. Pemba Sherpa got married at the summit and would be placed in Guiness Book of World Records 4. 1st team of Rotaractors representing Rotary Movement to scale Mt. Everest (to hoist the RI Flag to commemorate Centennial Year).

Congratulations to all Rotaractors and Rotary Family around the globe!!

Another good news is.. Sir Glenn Estess has sent another congratulatory note to all Rotarians and Rotaractors! Here it is: Sincere CONGRATULATIONS to Moni Mulepati, Kami Sherpa and Pemba Sherpa for their successful assent to the top of Mr. Everest. Moni has called me from the top of the Mountain and from the base camp and again today following their arrival back in Katmandu. Their safety has been the request of many prayers and I was pleased to know of their safe descent as well. I am grateful to the three of them for planting the Rotary banner atop the world. This Centennial Year is a time to Celebrate Rotary and their part of that celebration will be happily received by the Family of Rotary around the world. I compliment the Rotarians of Nepal for their support of these three Rotaractors and all Rotaractors in their Centennial quest. Since I do not have an address for Moni and the team, will you please provide a copy of this message to each of them? Glenn Estess
