The Rotary Club of Polomolok 101 President Espie C. Maliwat, SpouseClub 101 President Bong Maliwat and President-Elect Alan M. Ines joined volunteers from various clubs and organizations in a coastal clean up and artificial reefing on September 16, 2006 at Lion's Beach, General Santos City in observance of the International Coastal Clean Up Day. Lion's Beach used to acommodate the city's market place, but when a new building was built in a bigger area across the street, the vendors transferred their trade and left the area in a sorry condition. The city administration endeavored to convert the area into a public park. Illegal structures had been removed and the beach gradually rehabilitated. To this day, the beach area has been made a public park where people may take a walk or swim in the cool waters. The club also donated ten domes to add to the domes already donated by the other Zone 3860 clubs. Rotary Club of Polomolok 101 Spouse President Rolando Maliwat, Jr. donned his diving gear to assist seven other divers in the planting of the domes which would serve as artificial reefs. The club is an advocate of protection and conservation of marine life. |
