As Mr. lambert explains in this interview, one benefit of the transition to IPv6 from the currently-dominant IPv4 standard will be the ability to allocate far more IP addresses than previously, allowing many more objects, as well as many more individuals and organizations, to each have their own unique address on the Internet.
